Chatuchak Weekend Market in Bangkok – How to get there & what to expect

How to get to Chatuchak Weekend Market:

1.) Hop onto the BTS station and buy a ticket to “Mo Chit” station. N8 is the station number and it’s part of the light green line called the Sukhumvit line. If you are on the MRT line, you will have to make transfers and buy a separate ticket for the BTS line.

2.) From Mo Chit station, take a look around and you will see a large park on one side of the station, exit the station on the same side as the park.

3.) You can either cut through the park to reach the entrance for Chatuchak or if you want the full experience of the street vendors, stick to the sidewalks that wraps around towards the entrance.

What to expect:

If it’s your first time in Bangkok, you’ll definitely want to make Chatuchak market (JJ market as the locals call it) a destination in your itinerary.

This market is in an extremely large lot and is filled with hundreds of stalls, so packing your walking shoes is highly recommended!

The areas of the market is organized by what sort of goods are being sold, making it easy to find for those who are looking for a particular item.

A variety of goods are sold here from little Thai trinkets to large statues, anything you’re looking for there’s a good chance you’ll find it here.

Though be aware that the prices here are slightly higher than what you can find around the city, but bargaining is sort of expected here. If you can’t seem to settle on the price on an item you like, try your luck at another shop! Just remember to keep the interaction light and happy.

If shopping isn’t your thing, then go for the unique food and drinks that’ll surely expand your palate, along with the many pet stores selling unique animals that you probably never knew existed!

When you’re near the end of shopping and are in the mood for relaxation, they offer massage services here too, which is competitively priced for the area.

Want to escape the heat?

For myself, I can only take the heat for so long before I have to find somewhere cool to sit. Luckily for those like me, there is JJ mall just around the corner behind the market where you can relax in a completely air conditioned building.
